Perth is located in Australia continent in Western Australia and is also
its capital and largest city. Perth consists of over 1,5 million in
population and is the fourth largest city in population in Australia.
Western Australia is one of the state of Australia which has over 2,1
million population and Perth is the city having the most inhabitants. As
the political centre of the free settler of Swan River Colony, Captain
James Stirling is the one who founded Perth in 1829. For over 40,000
years the Aborigines known as Whadjuk Noonjar were the inhabitants of
Perth before the settlement of the European. The Whadjuk Noonjar were
living as hunter gatherers. The Aboriginals called Perth Boorloo who
were still living there until the European settled. It is said that the
first European was done by Captain Willem de Vlamingh in January 1697.
In the world Perth is known as the “City of Light”. This name was given
because when in 1962, John Glenn the American astronaut was orbiting the
earth on Friendship the residents of Perth lit the houselights and
streetlights. In 1998 the same was repeated when John Glenn passed
overhead on Space Shuttle. In Western Australia the oldest building
still standing is the Round House which was built in 1830.
