There is in Australia
in almost each cities zoos where are seen the native animals from the
continent of Australia. But the Australia Zoo known under this name is
located in Queensland. Known as the crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin was
the owner of the zoo, which was opened by his parent Bob and Lyn Irwin.
The Australia Zoo was opened in 1970; the main attractions of the zoo
are the crocodiles. Unfortunately Steve Irwin died in September 2006
while snorkelling at the Great Barrier Reef where he was pierced in the
chest by a stingray. The whole event was caught on camera and it seemed
that the stingray was probably threatened. The wildlife documentary The
Crocodile Hunter made Steve Irwin and the zoo very popular. The
Australia Zoo was called Beerwah Reptile Park when it first opened. The
main attraction of the zoo are crocodiles and the live crocodile
feedings, but there are also other Australian animals, as koalas,
wombats, snakes and other animals from the world as tigers, komodo
dragons, elephants and a large variety of birds. Terri Irwin the widow
of Steve Irwin now owes and manage the Australia Zoo.
