Pis located in Brussels, capital city of Belgium. Who doesn’t know the
Manneken Pis? The monument is well known in the whole world and all
tourists visiting Brussels want to see the statue of this little boy in
a compromising position. The visitors are just amazed when they see the
Manneken Pis. There is a lot of legend about the famous Manneken Pis of
Belgium, no one knows why the monument is there, it is said that it is a
just a fountain decoration where in the Middle Ages the people came to
get fresh water. One of the legends says that a little boy weeweed
against a witch’s door whose house was where now the fountain is now,
she was very angry and changed the little into a statue. It has been
traced that in 1619 existed the official original Manneken Pis and the
city asked Jerome Duquesnoy, a sculptor, to make a new statue to replace
the older one. Often the Menneken Pis has been hidden against bombs of
the invading armies. The Manneken has also been stolen several times.
Very often the famous Manneken Pis is often dressed; the famous statue
has over six hundred costumes.
