Germany is divided into sixteen states which are: North Rhine-Westphalia, Hamburg, Saxony, Baden-Württemberg, Thuringia, Berlin, Hesse, Saxony-Anhalt, Saarland, Brandenburg, Bremen, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Rhineland-Palatinate Bremen and Bavaria. German call the states “Länder”. Berlin is the second most populous city in Germany and number eight in European Union. The second largest of Germany is Hamburg and its port is the second largest in Europe after Rotterdam. Munich is the third largest of the country and is the capital of Bavaria. Köln is the fourth largest city of Germany and is one of the oldest cities in Germany.
